Beach Safety Programme - Mana Syndicate 7-10 December 2020
17 November 2020
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Mana Syndicate’s Water Awareness programme from 7-10th December will be a Beach Safety Programme run by qualified instructors. This programme will focus on children learning to use the Plimmerton Beach environment safely. In the classrooms students will also be learning about beach safety, to support the practical sessions.
Each student will participate in 2 x 1 hour sessions held at the beach in the area south of the railway crossing or Karehana Bay – wind dependent. They will learn about recognising beach conditions and survival strokes/techniques.
The feasibility of the programme relies on parent support and the willingness of parents to be in the water with the children to ensure we have a safe adult to student ratios, that is a minimum of 1:5 per class. We will also require parent support in walking the children to and from the beach.
CHILDREN WILL REQUIRE:
Togs
Polyprop top
2 towels
Sunscreen
Warm jacket / polar fleece
Sunhat
Walking shoes
Wetsuit or rash top (optional)
Water shoes or old shoes to wear in the water (optional)
While wetsuits are optional we would strongly recommend that adults and children who do not own one, try to borrow one for each session. If you have extras that are named and you are willing to lend to classes for this week that would be greatly appreciated.
The programme will be extremely worthwhile and will equip children with some excellent skills and knowledge so we want all children to participate. Should the cost of $10 per child be a difficulty please contact the classroom teacher in confidence.
