Dear Parents/Caregivers,

In Kowhai Syndicate we are learning about looking after our place (Kaitiakitanga). As part of this the team from Sustainable Coastlines will be coming to talk to our children and lead us in a clean up of our local beach area. Sustainable Coastlines is an award winning NZ charity whose mission is to enable people to look after the coastlines and waterways they love. We feel this is especially important for our community, living so close to the beach.

Our syndicate will all take part on Monday 6th April 2020, if the weather is bad the trip will be postponed till Tuesday 7th April 2020. If the trip is postponed it will be posted on seesaw by 8am on Monday 6th April.

The visit by the team will include a discussion and presentation about their work, share with us the damage that is being done and show us how to take care of our coastlines and waterways. It will finish with all children taking part in a ‘beach clean up’ at Plimmerton Beach. We were lucky enough to have the team visit us in 2018 and it was such an empowering event.

There is no cost for this trip.

We will be leaving school approximately 10am. Please make sure your child has their sunhat, had sunblock applied and a jersey and jacket in case the weather is not good.  We will return to school by 1pm.

Each class will require some parent/caregiver help. Please note down on the permission slip below if you are able to assist with your child’s class and the teacher will get in touch with you to confirm if you are needed. Please note that we are unable to accommodate pre-schoolers on this trip.
