Gala – The School Gala will be held from 12 to 4 pm on Saturday, 21 November.  This is our school's major fund raising event for the year and a successful gala is critical to our financial health.  We are dependent upon our school parents and staff to provide the man-power necessary and we are hoping that all parents who are available will pitch-in and help.  The success of the gala is also dependent on a great turnout so parents are asked to spread the word and encourage friends and family from far and wide to attend. The proceeds from the Gala benefit every child in the school.

Water Tank - Porirua City Council Emergency Management is in the process of installing a 25,000 litre water storage tank behind the Technology Centre. The purpose of this tank is to be to provide drinking water for the community in the case of a natural disaster taking out the existing water supply. This will also mean that we will no longer need to store emergency drinking water in our classrooms – yeah! I presume P.C.C. will send information about the tank to residents when the installation is completed.

2010 Planning - Planning for 2010 is well in hand and next week I will publish the proposed school organisation for next year. Our roll is expected to increase further next year largely as a result of continuing large numbers entering at the New Entrant level and lesser numbers leaving at Year 8 – eg. at the end of  this year 37 x Year 8 students will leave to go to secondary school and next year we are anticipating 62 N.E. enrolments. At this stage we are expecting our staffing for 2010 to be relatively stable with a limited amount of internal movement to cater for the changing numbers within syndicates.

INTERACTION DAY - Last Friday we had a whole school Interaction day. The theme was Countries and Cultures around the world.

After morning tea we lined up in our groups of mixed junior and senior students by the mural and then headed to the first activity. Some of the activities were origami, treasure hunt, sculptures of famous buildings, folk dancing and face painting. Each group did four activities, two between morning tea and lunch, and two after lunch. Throughout the day Ms J and Whaea Kate came around and asked each group to place their gold coin donations on one of the two islands drawn on the court. The islands were Savai’i and Upolu. Both islands make up the country of Samoa.

Our school raised $345 (582 tala). The money is to help Samoa after the devastating tsunami. Overall everyone had a great time and made lots of new friends.

TAUPO SYNDICATE’S WEEK - What a busy week it has been for some Taupo students!  Starting with Underwater Hockey last Saturday night.  We entered two teams into the tournament at Huia Pool. The first team was the team of Year 8’s who had been playing all year. The second was a team of Year 7’s and some Year 6’s, who had never played before. The Year 7 and 6 team came 11th and won a few of their games which they were pleased about. The Year 8 team won all their games and then lost the final to Scots. We are very pleased with the outcome and I’m sure the Year 7 team will be a great team next year! It was the last tournament for the Year 8’s and I’d just like to say a huge thanks to Julie and Kevin Hunter for all of their awesome work!!!

Next we had the girls Milo Shield cricket final against Tawa Intermediate on Monday at Ngatitoa Domain. We played really well with Torrie hitting 3 boundaries in our batting and Ciara taking a good catch (without a glove) off Mia’s bowling, but unfortunately we lost. We are happy that we made it to the final considering we only had four players who played Saturday cricket! The Year 5-8’s were supposed to attend the Paramoana sports tournament yesterday but due to poor weather it was postponed, and disappointingly, has now been cancelled. Bring on our next sporting events, Water Awareness and Triathlon.
